Abu Dhabi

The capital, at its own pace

The federal capital and by far the largest emirate, reaching from the corniche and the islands of the Gulf to the oases of Al Ain and the dunes of the Empty Quarter. It holds the country's grandest mosque and its most ambitious museums, and it is still the emirate where you can drive an hour and find nobody.

Got a question? Here's an answer

When is the best time to visit the UAE?

From late October to April the days are warm rather than hot and most outdoor experiences run. June to September is much hotter: indoor attractions, beaches at dawn and the Hajar mountains are the better plan then.

Do I need a visa?

It depends on your passport. Check the official entry channels before you book: VisitUAE does not issue entry permission.

How do I get between the emirates?

By road. The seven emirates are linked by sealed highways, and most journeys between them take from half an hour to a couple of hours. The platform sells transfers, and the trip planner measures each leg for you.

What currency is used?

The UAE dirham (AED), which is pegged to the US dollar at about 3.67.

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably, but cover shoulders and knees at mosques and heritage sites. Swimwear is for beaches and pools.

Can I book tickets, stays and tours together?

Yes. Tickets, stays and tours go into one basket.
